Security forces in Kogi State have rescued 11 of 15 National Youth Service Corps members abducted along the Aloma-Egane Expressway.
The incident occurred on August 26 when armed attackers reportedly blocked vehicles travelling through the area. Four people remained missing as of Monday while security personnel continued searching surrounding areas.
The incident has renewed concerns about the safety of young Nigerians travelling for national service.
Why this matters
The NYSC programme involves thousands of young Nigerians moving between states every year.
Security on major highways is therefore not simply a policing issue—it is directly connected to education, employment, national integration and public confidence.
President Bola Tinubu has also confirmed the rescue of 21 Nigerians in connection with the wider Kogi abduction, including 15 NYSC members and six other people.
Nigerians should be able to travel between states without treating every major highway journey as a security gamble.
